WHERE'S VESPRINI?: IT'S A FUNNY OLD GAME
Tuesday April 22, 2014
There was I about to descend into an early season pit of despair as the lads contemplated their third straight home defeat and suddenly things look a whole lot brighter.

Must admit I thought Ipswich would go places this season, a decent line-up and young Mr Ellis at reserve seemed to add up to the recipe for success. On Easter Sunday that recipe definitely seemed to have gone off. Credit to the lads though who took full advantage of a Witches team that still seemed to be reeling after Good Friday turned bad against the Panthers.

Special mention must go the 747 who is going from strength to strength, that year off and the lack of metal holding any part of his anatomy together certainly seems to have worked wonders. That’s five straight double figure scores and hopefully many more to come although things will get a bit tougher as the new averages will dictate a promotion into the body of the team. Hats off to Uncle Len as well for giving the BSPA a Rocket for not including our Rocket in the initial draw for the British semi final.

As Luke continues to impress poor Simon continues to struggle, OK over two laps its getting a bit too regular commenting on him dropping to the back of the field. Confidence is whats needed, a few big scorers in the NL should come in handy.

It was a good but expensive afternoon for Mat who’s fast becoming our very own ‘Unlucky Alf’ (reference for fans of the 1990’s BBC Fast Show there, if you haven’t seen it check it out you won’t be disappointed). What with Young Norman totaling his best small track bike at Plymouth, he blew another engine on Sunday after a great win in Heat 1. He thoroughly deserved his Heat 15 nomination from Team Manager John and hopefully when he got back to France young Miss Tresarrieu didn’t keep him awake all night.

Well that’s the League Cup over for another year although looking at the results in the other two groups its proving a funny old competition. Edinburgh have stormed through the Border Group making my pre season prediction of a 7th placed finish in the league look decidedly dodgy. In my defence I did loose the trusty pin by then! Sheffield and Redcar who few people fancied to do well are making a go of it in the Northern Group with Scunthorpe mysteriously at the bottom of the pile.

Talking of the Scorpions who open our league campaign on Saturday it was great to see a picture on Twitter of Anders ‘Iron Man‘ Mellgren back on a bike. There’s still a way to go but hopefully he’ll be able to get back on the track in a couple of months. Unfortunately no reunion with Anders then but we will see another appearance of honorary Rocket Josh Auty our automatic choice as a guest for a few seasons. Along with David Howe and Ashley Birks there should be enough to keep things interesting in the commentary box and stop camera Ken worrying about Charlton’s possible drop out of the Championship for an hour or so!

Up The Rockets!
