WHERE'S VESPRINI?: BURST BOUNCY CASTLES & EXPLODING ENGINES
Tuesday June 03, 2014
As you can imagine there were a few glum faces in the pits on Saturday night.
Young Norman wasn’t a happy bunny after his engine gave up the ghost when he was in touching distance of another win and Manager John was left shrugging his shoulders and wondering what might have been. As is his style though his thoughts quickly turned to a few cosy nights in studying the Big Book of Averages before picking a couple of likely guests for next week. A home defeat so early in the league season is not good news and particularly when we are up against those pesky Rebels next. It was also ironic but perhaps inevitable that Ritchie would prove the match winner. A genuinely nice guy and one I was sorry to see go he certainly deserves the success he’s now enjoying even if the latest installment came at our expense. It will certainly be an old boys reunion this weekend with Pontus, Ritchie, and Ollie all out on the track.
Young Norman is off to Germany where the locals will do well to cut through his broad Mancunian accent while I’m still waiting my first glimpse of Stefan in Rockets colours. Mind you I’m probably not the only one Camera Ken counted his home debut as 4 seconds before the unfortunate lad gave the bouncy castle on the first bend a good testing. Am I the only one who still finds it strange that these days instead of calling for a man with a plank ( a good Eric Sykes and Tommy Cooper reference here for older readers) we now need someone with a foot pump before we can get going again? I can think of a few speedway commentators that could do the job and before anyone says it I’m not counting myself or Ken in there! It is interesting though that despite the bouncy castle revolution we seem to have as many injured riders as ever. Shortly the National League will surely be called the Rider Replacement and Guest League as riders double and triple up making them much more likely to get injured.
So it will be welcome back to little Ben and hello to that sneaky Sam Simota this Saturday. If you didn’t catch that story earlier in the season he’s the one who booked himself into the training school to get a bit of practice around the track before he came down with Plymouth. Fair play to the lad and lets hope he shows a similar level sneakiness whilst he’s our guest. Not much inside gossip from my sources over the past couple of weeks although I did note that Webby was sporting a particularly loud summer shirt on Saturday night. Wonder if he’s been watching the remake of Hawaii-5-0 on Sky plenty of fashion hints there for our man. We’re also a month and a bit away from the 747’s big day I’ve been asked to interview the man of the moment for the programme I’ve only got 800 words so best stay off the injuries I think!
